The Classic Hawk is our back-to-basics training aircraft, specifically configured for Sport Pilot and Private Pilot students who want to develop strong stick-and-rudder skills and confidence in the airplane. It combines the forgiving, predictable flight characteristics that have made the Cessna 172 one of the world's most popular training aircraft with a deliberately simple cockpit and excellent visibility.
The Classic Hawk is VFR only — by design.
With a low instrument panel and large Cessna windows, the Classic Hawk gives students an outstanding view of the runway, surrounding terrain, traffic, and horizon. That visibility is especially valuable when learning to land, helping students develop the visual references, judgment, and feel that are fundamental to becoming a good pilot.
The airplane's lightweight airframe and manual flaps make it responsive and engaging to fly. You'll feel the airplane respond to your control inputs and learn to manage airspeed, energy, pitch, and coordination rather than relying on automation. It's a simple, direct, and genuinely fun way to learn the fundamentals of flight.
Powering the Classic Hawk is the legendary Continental O-300 six-cylinder engine. Smooth and quiet, the O-300 delivers the refined feel that makes the Cessna 172 such a pleasure to fly. Its six-cylinder configuration provides the inherent redundancy of a multi-cylinder aircraft engine, along with the reliability that has made the O-300 a familiar and trusted powerplant in general aviation for decades.
The panel is intentionally simplified, with the primary flight instruments right where you need them. For navigation, the Classic Hawk uses an iPad running ForeFlight, the industry's leading electronic flight planning and navigation platform. This gives students access to modern VFR navigation tools while keeping the focus where it belongs — outside the cockpit, flying the airplane.
