"The exhilaration of flying is too keen, the pleasure too great, for it to be neglected as a sport."

— Orville Wright

More than just a flight school

Flight Training for People Who Want More From Aviation

At Chesapeake Sport Pilot, we believe flight training in Maryland should be about more than earning a pilot certificate. Our Maryland flight school is a community of pilots, instructors, and aviation enthusiasts who want to help you become a confident, capable pilot—and enjoy aviation for years to come.

Experienced Flight Instructors Who Actually Want to Teach

One of the things that makes Chesapeake Sport Pilot different is our instructors.

We hire experienced professional flight instructors who genuinely enjoy teaching. Our instructors aren't simply building flight hours while waiting for an airline job. They choose to instruct because they enjoy working with students and take pride in helping people become better pilots.

Your goals come first. Whether you're working toward a Sport Pilot certificate, Private Pilot certificate, or additional single-engine ratings, you'll have an instructor who is invested in your success.

Well-Maintained Aircraft and Our Own Maintenance Shop

Safe, reliable aircraft are essential to good flight training. Chesapeake Sport Pilot operates its own aircraft maintenance shops, allowing us to maintain our training fleet to a high standard and respond quickly when something needs attention.

When an airplane needs maintenance, we don't have to wait weeks for someone else to get to it. Our maintenance team works to get our aircraft repaired and back in service quickly, helping keep your flight training in Maryland on schedule.

You May Not Need an FAA Medical

Many of our students and customers fly under Sport Pilot rules using a driver's license rather than an FAA medical certificate. Others fly under BasicMed. If you meet the applicable FAA requirements, you may be able to fly without holding a traditional FAA medical certificate. We can help you understand which option may work for you.

Spend More Time Flying and Less Time Fighting Airspace

Our flight school is conveniently located outside the Washington, DC flight restrictions, giving our students a significant advantage over schools located inside or closer to heavily restricted airspace.

Less time dealing with complicated airspace procedures means more time actually flying. That can mean fewer wasted training hours, more efficient lessons, and better value for your flight training investment.

We're conveniently located for students throughout the Washington DC, Baltimore, and Annapolis area.

More Than a Flight School. A Community.

Chesapeake Sport Pilot isn't a flying club, but it isn't a typical flight school either.

We are a community where students, instructors, aircraft owners, and pilots get to know one another. People make friendships here that last long after they earn their pilot certificates.

And there isn't a single path you have to follow after you learn to fly.

Some of our graduates continue with advanced flight training and additional ratings. Others buy airplanes. Some build their own aircraft. Some pursue unusual and adventurous aviation projects. Others simply keep flying because they love it.

We support a variety of single-engine pilot certificates and ratings, with a particular emphasis on Sport Pilot and Private Pilot training.

We Believe Pilots Should Give Back

Aviation is also about sharing the experience with others.

Chesapeake Sport Pilot regularly participates in community service projects, including flying Scouts and neighborhood kids and our annual Tangier Holly Run. We believe introducing young people to aviation and giving back to our community are important parts of being a pilot.

It's another thing that makes us different from a typical flight school.

The Best Value Isn't Always the Lowest Price

We're not necessarily the cheapest flight school in Maryland—and we're comfortable with that.

Our students receive more than an airplane and an instructor for an hourly rate. They get experienced professional flight instructors, well-maintained aircraft, responsive in-house maintenance, efficient access to the airspace, and a community of pilots who genuinely care about aviation.

Our goal isn't to offer the lowest price.

Our goal is to give you the best value for your investment in learning to fly.
